Start with the native field

The cleanest approach does not add a theme field or rename Address 2. It uses Codice Fiscale, Shopify’s Italian localized field. The value stays in Shopify’s flow and customers see one clear request.

Separate collection from validation

Showing a field does not make it required. CF Ready gives Codice Fiscale and PEC independent modes: unmanaged, optional or required. You then activate Shopify’s Validation separately.

A cautious starting point.

Begin with “optional”: an empty field passes, while an incorrectly completed one is flagged. Move to “required” after checking your flow.

What happens at checkout

Rules apply to deliveries in Italy. They do not apply if the billing address is outside Italy. If the delivery country is missing, required fields that Shopify does not show do not block the order.Fields that are present are still checked. A technical error in the app leaves checkout open.

Check before activation

  1. Confirm that Codice Fiscale and PEC are visible in the checkout you want to cover.
  2. Configure Codice Fiscale and PEC separately.
  3. Try synthetic examples in the app’s local simulator.
  4. Activate the Validation and complete an allowed test checkout.

The important limit

CF Ready validates the structure of a Codice Fiscale. It does not query the Italian tax registry or certify that the code belongs to the person entering it. The merchant and their adviser decide when it must be collected.
